Dash – Gifted (Official Music Video)
Shondell Anthony Amada popularly known as “Dash” was
born on November 10, 1990. He grew up in the community
of La Borie, St. Paul’s, with his brothers and sisters, where
he became involved in many sporting activities; while also
developing a deep love and appreciation for music at a
tender age. His knack for music was nurtured when he
began playing the steel pan for the Commancheros Steel
Orchestra, a band with which he is still an active member.
His musical abilities were further harnessed when he joined
the Royal Grenada Police Force band, as a vocalist and drummer.
His musical career began as a Hip-Hop artiste, voicing songs with his group FMTP. After
which, the group decided to delve into the soca genre in 2013 with their first song, in
collaboration with Afibah McQueen, “Phantom”. The following year, the group
composed five songs and entered the National Soca Monarch competition for the first
time; however, their road to the crown ended at the preliminary round. Notably, they
placed third in the 2014 CC6 Flow Knock Out competition.
Then in 2015, after entering the national competition as a solo artiste, Dash advanced to
the semi-finals. However, it was not until 2016 that he took the airwaves by storm with
his hit single No Company capturing the title of National Groovy Monarch and placing fourth in the National Power Soca Monarch competition, with another fan favourite.
The Call. These two songs were further complimented by Party Habit and Mas Start
adding to his catalogue for the 2016 Spicemas season. He was named The People’s
Champion by Digicel Grenada after his 2016 success and was added to the company’s
list of national brand ambassadors.
Capitalizing on the momentum from his victory in the national competition, Dash
propelled into 2017 with an even greater enthusiasm and passion for music. His musical
contributions spanned both groovy and power soca with crowd favourites such as Last
Post, The Book, Tun Up Di Rhythm, Ants Nest and Having a Time with Skinny Banton.
Dash captured the coveted title of National Groovy Monarch, for a consecutive year,
with one of the leading songs of the Spicemas season Hit After Hit.
Considered as a staple in the Grenadian and diasporic musical arena, 2018 promised to
be even greater than previous years. His contributions for the Carnival season included
Mame, Listen Carefully, In We Place, Wild Up, Intense, Gifted and Follow My Lead. Thus
far, Gifted is already considered to be a fan favourite complemented by the subsequent
release of the song’s music video; the first official music video to be released by Dash.
Off the heels of the song’s popularity, Dash successfully defended his title as the
National Groovy Soca Monarch of Grenada and captured the crown for a third
consecutive year. He is presently the only national groovy soca monarch to have won the tittle 3 consecutive times.
As a public figure, Dash’s presence is not only felt within entertainment circles but also
among corporate Grenada as he is a brand ambassador for Geo. F. Huggins & Co. (G’da)
Ltd. and Star Malt. He continues to build his catalogue of songs, with intricately woven
lyrics, that transcended the boundaries of Spicemas. Consequently, he has performed at
numerous concerts and events, both locally, regionally and internationally. His motive is
to please his audience with top quality music, clean lyrics and most importantly to bring
enjoyment to everyone who listens to his songs. He anticipates an even stronger year in
2019 as he continually strives to improve his craft and build on his personal brand as a
recording artiste and entertainer.
